Labor Day weekend my daughter-in-law and I took eight-year-old Ella tubing on the Toccoa River. It turned out to be the most beautiful rainy day experience ever to have with a child. Since it literally rained on us almost the entire trip down the river the sky was gray and beautiful. The color of the trees along both sides of the riverbanks was deep and gorgeous. There was no worry of sunburn and we didn’t need sunglasses which would have made the color of nature less amazing.
I enjoyed being “child” that day and joyfully playing in the rain without a worry of getting wet. At the apple orchard before that, I did not feel the same way about the rain at all. I didn’t want to go out there picking apples and getting wet shoes and clothes and later being cold as a result of the wet clothes. I just wanted to be home in my dry living room playing games together. Ha! Quite a dramatic contrast to the abandoned joy that came later on the river.
